About Stories on Film

Wherever you find human beings, you will find stories. Stories are essential. They pass on experience, wisdom, and insight from generation to generation to help us find our way through life. Great stories not only leave us feeling more alive and more connected to ourselves and the world around us, they also give us a new clarity about what matters to us and how we want to live our lives.

Stories on Film began in 1995 with a vision that films could be more than just entertainment, they could present great stories to a large audience in a powerful way. It was not a unique or even fresh idea, but it was one that had seemed to have fallen out of favor. Since then, the handful of meaningful films that have been produced by the major studios have been greatly outnumbered by the hoards of films produced by a corporate mentality that sees films as an "entertainment product" to be marketed to a consumer culture like a soft drink. Stories on Film stands for creating and promoting films that make a contribution to the betterment of the people watching them as well as captures their spirit and imagination in the finest, most ancient tradition of storytelling.

That is not to say we do not care about marketing. On the contrary, movies serve no purpose if no one sees them and we all need to pay the rent. We simply believe that by carefully appealing to and cultivating a target audience, we can successfully compete with the major studios' increasingly unsuccessful attempts to create a movie that will appeal to everyone. Yes, it means some people won't like our films, but those who do will find them more enjoyable, more relevant, and more powerful than any mass market movie. And they will be back to see our next movie.
